Inception Fandom Rare Ship Fest

Hello Inception fandom! It's time to celebrate all those ships that don't get nearly enough love.

♥ Inception Fandom Rare Ship Fest ♥

For the purposes of this fest, a rare ship is defined as anything other than Arthur/Eames. All threesomes/moresomes involving Inception characters are also welcome.

PROMPTING: Prompts should be left as ship + scenario, one prompt per comment. Please list the ship in the subject line for easy navigation of the fest.

CREATING: Browse the prompts to see what inspires you, but feel free to create something for your favorite rare ship without waiting for a prompt. Multiple fills for a prompt are encouraged. The goal of this fest is to increase the number of rare ship fanworks across the fandom, so the more fills, the merrier :D

You are welcome to participate with your Dreamwidth account, anonymously, or using Open ID.

All fills are welcome, but please use discretion and warn for anything that's potentially triggery. We want this fest to be safe and friendly for everyone. If you have any questions about this, please contact me or [personal profile] architect.

Now go forth and celebrate your favorite rare ships!

Arthur notices the movement out of the corner of his eye.

Cobb is distracted, spinning James around the front lawn, both of them high and sticky with sugar; the picture of happiness. Cobb doesn’t notice, but Arthur spots the movement and turns his head just as Phillipa darts through the parked cars and down the driveway, chasing after the neighbour’s cat.

Arthur spots the SUV next. For a moment everything goes quiet and cold. It’s when his beer slides out of his hands and smashes on the deck, that's when Arthur knows he's moving. Running.

Shouting.

Phil, no.

Arthur catches her just in time, scooping her up and forward. The screech of rubber is a brief but effective warning for him to brace. And Arthur does, the bumper grazing his left side and spinning him and Phillipa further forward, tumbling onto the bitumen.

For a moment there is complete silence, and then Arthur begins to hear noise again; the running car engine, Cobb's voice, yelling and frantic. Phillipa beginning to cry. Quiet little sobs where the shock has caught up with her. Arthur sits up, breathing rapidly, and squeezes her hand.

"Phillipa, oh my god." Cobb has caught up to them, his face pale and pallid with shock. "Are you okay?"

"I've called an ambulance," another voice says, a woman's. Probably the owner of the SUV. "I-- I didn't see her."

"Are you okay?" Cobb says again, and Arthur realises he's directing the question at him. Phillipa and James are both crying now, and Cobb's holding them tightly, protectively against his chest.

Arthur's only seen Cobb look this distraught once before.

"I'm fine," Arthur assures Cobb. "We're both fine."

The paramedics agree, but take them in to hospital to have them checked over. Arthur has some minor bruising on his left side where the car connected, and Phillipa has a few scratches where they fell, but they are both otherwise okay. Cobb makes a fuss about Arthur staying with them, but Arthur politely declines and goes back to his hotel.

Arthur takes a long, hot shower, and then gets into bed, cringing where his bruised hip hits the mattress. He dreams about all the ways it could have gone wrong, if he hadn't seen Phillipa, if he hadn't moved fast enough, or the SUV had. How Cobb would have looked at him.

He wakes in a cold sweat to someone knocking on his door.

It's Cobb, and Arthur's pulse clicks up a few notches. "What's wrong? Is Phil okay?"

"She's fine, she's at school." Cobb replies, nodding at the clock. It says 10:42 am. Arthur must have slept longer than he meant to.

"I just wanted to come by," Cobb continues, shoulders hitched with tension, "to say thank you."

Arthur shakes his head, trying to shake away the remnants of last night's dreams. "I told you last night, it's fine, I got lucky."

Cobb nods. "I just, I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't."

"I don't know either," Arthur says, throat tight. "I adore those kids like they’re my own."

The sentiment while true, seems to hang heavily in the air between them. Arthur, uneasy, begins to ask Cobb if he wants a coffee, when Cobb steps in close, squinting and pressing his hand lightly against the left side of Arthur’s face, just above his eye.

"You've got a mark, here." Cobb says, and Arthur just nods and directs his gaze at the carpet, suddenly very conscious of how tight his chest feels.

“It’s just a bruise, Dom,” Arthur says dismissively. "It’s fine"

Cobb doesn't move, but seems to come back to himself slightly. "I was so terrified yesterday, Arthur. When I turned around and saw you and Phillipa in the path of that car, I thought…"

Arthur nods. "You thought you were going to lose her."

Cobb's intense expression softens slightly, and he gently steps away from Arthur again. “I thought I was going to lose both of you.”

Arthur feels something strange stir in the pit of his stomach, like guilt almost. Like he’s missed something important Cobb was trying to tell him.

"Hey, are you okay?" Arthur asks, confused.

Cobb just nods, and makes his way towards the door. “Come over for dinner sometime this weekend, okay? I’ve got a beer with your name on it.”

“You bet,” Arthur responds, watching Cobb pull the door shut behind him. Arthur gingerly touches the bruise above his eyebrow, and it aches quietly underneath his skin.
